Virginia Lee Brown, 99, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023 at The Villas of Hollybrook Bethalto.
Born December 29, 1923 in East Alton, she was the daughter of Charles Edward and Agnes (Thomson) Bracken.
She enjoyed dancing and had worked in the military packing department of the Olin Corporation before retiring.
On July 29, 1944 in Sturgeon Bay, WI, she married Charles L. Brown. He died May 7, 1988.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice (Alan) Bruha of Wood River; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Sean) Durbin-Karner, Danial (Gillian) Durbin; six great grandchildren, Grace A., Emma L., Alexandra, and Wyatt M. Karner, Quintin and Finnegan Durbin; sister, Mary Kay Grenzeback (Gib Walmsley) of Wood River; and two nephews, Paul Michael Grenzeback and Keith Grenzebck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Lois A. Bracken.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Villas of Hollybrook for their excellent care and the nurses of BJC Hospice, Kami and Deanna, for their loving care.
A private Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Marks Mortuary in Wood River with burial in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
The Salvation Army has been suggested as a memorial.
