Shirley Ann (Engle) Hurley, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:35 pm. on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
She was born December 26, 1941 in Hickory, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Loyd Clay Engle and Margaret L (Shuford Engle) Davis.
She married (Tom) Henry Hurley on January 28, 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri who preceded her from this life in 2018.
She retired from Allen Foods/US Food Service in the mid-2000s after decades of dedicated service. She also owned and operated Hurley's Jewerly in Granite City and St. Louis for many years, and participated as vendors of the Black Walnut Festival for many years.
She is survived by sons: Regis "Scott" and wife Jean Averell of Omaha, Nebraska, John and wife Cindy Hurley of Festus, Missouri, David Hurley and partner Courtney, of Millstadt, Illinois, and Kenneth and husband Taylor Averell of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, David "D.J." Hurley and fiance Haley Gentry of Wood River, Christina Hurley of Godfrey, Amber Hurley and fiance Michelle Gooch of Alton; four great grandchildren, Audrey, Joshua, Aidyn and Jolee; extended family in Hayti, Missouri; nieces, Melanie, Melinda, Sherry and Emma; other extended family and many friends.
There will be no service or memorial per her wishes. Marks Mortuary of Wood River, IL has been entrusted with cremation services.
Her ashes will be spread later this spring at Stockton Lake, joining her beloved Henry.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice if you desire.
