Sandra Sue “Sandy” Baggett, 77, of South Roxana, Illinois, was called home to heaven on September 1, 2024. Born on October 1, 1946, in Chester, Illinois, Sandy was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and a beloved friend.
Sandy married Ronald Baggett Sr. on September 17, 1966. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ronald Sr; their two sons, Ronald Baggett Jr. (Karen) and Michael Baggett (Jennifer); her daughter, Chare Lee Becker; and their adopted son, TJ Callahan (Desi Walker). Sandy was a proud grandmother to Christopher Baggett, Timothy Baggett, MacKenzie Darr (Sean), Joshua Baggett (Allison), Kendra Admire (Tyler), and Jessica Baggett, and a doting great-grandmother to Cambria Belcher, Ryder Baggett, Emmett Darr, Greyson Admire, Rowen Admire, and Kyson Morgan. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Sandy’s surviving siblings include Fred “Buzzy” Childers (Carolyn), Margaret Keeton (Phillip), and Carol Nagel (Neil). She was preceded in death by her siblings Wilma Asbury, Darlene Johnson, and Richard Childers, as well as her parents, Fred and Elda Childers.
A dedicated homemaker and devout Christian, Sandy was known for her exceptional skills in the kitchen, delighting her family with her famous goulash, fried potatoes, and from-scratch chicken and dumplings. Her green thumb was evident in her beautiful garden, where she especially took pride in her tomatoes.
Sandy will be remembered for her loving spirit, her dedication to her family, her unwavering faith, and her culinary skills. She had a special way of making everyone around her feel cherished and valued. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A memorial visitation and service will be held on Thursday, September 5th at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River, IL from 9am to 11am. A memorial service to follow beginning at 11am. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her memory and celebrating her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society in Sandy’s memory.
