Roberta Whitt Obituary

Roberta Kay Whitt, 84, went to be with the Lord, September 22, 2025. Her wish was to be home with as many family and friends as could be there. God granted that to be possible.

She was born July 18, 1941 in Alton, the daughter of John Clarence and Lula Katherine (Day) Gayan. She graduated from Alton High School, spending most of her adult life as a secretary/bookkeeper working at Specialized Services for over 15 years before working for the Phil Enloe Evangelistic Association for over 20 years.

If you were a friend to Berta, she loved you and considered you to be her family. One of her favorite families that she spent time with and loved dearly was the Enloe family. Well into her 70's, she had a love for roller coasters. In fact, the last one she rode was "Fire In The Hole" with Jacob and Alyssa. She loved theme parks, and "Silver Dollar City" was one of her favorites, but her favorite places were Busch Stadium, watching her Cardinals while keeping her scorecard and enjoying ball park food and Branson, MO, in the front row of The Presley's County Jubilee.

She and her husband Lawrence H. Whitt were married 48 years.  Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Katie Walker and of course, "Tucker", their pride and joy puppy; her niece, Gwendolyn Garland and her husband, Brian; great-niece, Alyssa Smith and her husband, Josiah; nephew, Robbie Gayan; great nephews, Jacob Garland and his wife, Maggie, Nathan Garland, Brandon Nowlin, and Johnny Nowlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bobby Gayan, Sr. and his wife, Norma (McPherson) Gayan, Johnny Gayan; and niece, Bobbie Jean Nowlin.

Roberta loved the Lord with her whole heart. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but we have peace in knowing that she entered into her eternal home, forever with her Lord and Savior.

Visitation will be from 3 pm until time of a Celebration of Life Service at 5 pm, Thursday, September 25 at The River Church, 3401 Fosterburg Rd, Alton, IL . Rev. Phil Enloe will officiate.

Graveside service and burial will be 11 am, Friday at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, where everyone is welcome to attend.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, as Roberta adored and loved children.
