Robert L. Nelson, Sr

Robert L. Nelson, Sr., 90, passed away October 21, 2024 at OSF St. Anthony's HealthCare Center in Alton.

Born October 17, 1934 in Wood River, he was the son of Ben and Blanche (Coffman) Nelson.

He had been employed as a custodian and laborer at several locations in the area before retiring.

On January 14, 1957 in Wood River he married Charlotte June Badman. She died June 6, 2020.

Surviving are a son, Robert Nelson, Jr.; two daughters, Karen Nelson (Marvin Matlack, Jr.), Denise K. (Josh) Carter; five grandchildren, Robert Nelson, III, Amber Legate, Ashley Legate, Alisha Wiscombe, Zachary Carter; and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jeffery L. Nelson; five brothers, Larry, Benny, Dave, Clarence, and Lee Nelson; and six sisters, Louise, Ruth Ann, Mae, Mabel, Janie, and Helen.

Cremation rites were accorded.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
