Melissa Ann (Battles) Smith

Melissa Ann Smith, 47, passed away August 27, 2024, with her family by her side, at St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton.

Born September 23, 1976 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Susan (Bush) Battles of East Alton and the late John Edward Battles.

She had been a Home Healthcare Aide for Doors.

Melissa married Arthur Eugene Smith who preceded her in death.

Surviving are her mother; son, Stephen Dale Battles of East Alton; maternal grandparents, Rev. Steven and Brenda Battles of Marine; sister, Leah (David "Nub") Huebner of Wood River; several aunts and uncles; three nephews; a niece; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandmother, Dortha Battles; and step-daughter, Kandice Marie Smith.

Cremation rites were accorded.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
