Mary Elizabeth Blackard, 82, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025 at her residence.
Born July 24, 1942 in St. Louis, MO, she was the daughter of Preston Hapgood and Mary Lavona (nee Hebruck) Barnes.
She had a long, successful career as a nursing aid in the home healthcare field for more than 30 years.
Surviving are five daughters, Judith Marie (Richard) Zeigenbein of Cottage Hills, Connie Jean Gaither of Roxana, Robin Lynn Smith of East Alton, Carol Ann Davis of Bacliff, TX, Cheryl Pauline Simmons of Bacliff, TX; three sons, Daniel Ray (Diana) Holmes of Grand Tower, Donald Ray (Terri Lynn) Holmes of Pontoon Beach, Robert Lee Holmes of Cottage Hills; three sisters, Agnes Roberts of East Alton, Margaret (Robert) Lefler of Perryville, MO, Susan Vest of Alton; a brother, John (Cathy) Hapgood of Perryville, Missouri, 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Delbert Ray Holmes; four brothers, Thomas Hapgood, Preston Hapgood, Bill Hapgood, Michael Hapgood; and four sisters, Patricia Hapgood, Shirley Hapgood, Lily Hughes, and Joyce Baylor.
Private graveside service and burial at Home Cemetery in Perryville, MO.
