Kathryn "Kay" Francis (Pike) Smart

Kathryn Francis Smart, 79, of Wood River, Illinois, passed away on July 29, 2025 in LaBella of Alton, surrounded by her loving family. 

Kay was born November 9, 1945 in Highland, Illinois. She was the daughter of Ernest and Pearl (Davis) Pike. 

Kay was a devoted mother, grandmother, and best friend to all. She raised eight children and later raised five grandchildren as her own, instilling in each of them the value of love, resilience, and kindness. Her words didn't just offer comfort they made you feel seen and loved. In her younger years, she had a deep love for sewing. She sewed clothes, pajamas, and keepsakes for her children. A lifetime reader, she found joy and comfort in pages of her books, but more than anything she loved her family. Her home was a gathering place full of laughter, stories, and unconditional love. 

She is survived by her children, Ed Trebing of Post Tx, Darlene (Greg) Counts of Bethalto, Lisa Ellard of Ogallala NE, Denice (Ben) Guenther of Papillion NE, David Lyons of Bethalto, Regina Miller of Worden, Chance (Bethany) Trebing of Dow, Chase Trebing of Illinois, Trista Trebing of Dow, Zachary Trebing of Mt Olive, and Casey Trebing of Willsonville; grandchildren, Kim Stratmann, Landon Trebing, Savanna Trebing, Tyler Cockrell, Jason Cockrell, Shane Trebing, Mandy Lehr, Darbi Seitler, Katie Crandall, Dylon Ellard, Ryan Guenther, Josh Guenther, Austin Bridges, Mallory Miller, Drew Miller; 21 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. 

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ernest and Pearl (Davis) Pike; daughter, Gail Cockrell; son, John Trebing; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Trebing; son-in-law,Scott Ellard; grandson, Christopher Barbosa; two brothers; four sisters; and two fur babies, "Z" and "Mario". 

A celebration of life memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 pm Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Illinois. 

A private interment will be held at the Mount Olive Cemetery.
