James "Jim" F. Yates, 86, passed away January 31, 2024 at his residence.
Born December 31, 1937 in Alton, he was the son of James. O. and Grace E. (Kienstra) Yates.
Jim had worked a senior scheduler in the aerospace division of McDonnell-Douglas for 30 years before retiring in 1996.
On December 18, 1965 in Wood River, he married Sandra Linenfelser. She survives.
Surviving also are a son, David L. Smith of East Alton; two daughters, Carolyn E. (Julius) Waigiri in North Carolina, Stephanie A. (Alan) Spann of Glenpool, OK; 14 grandchildren, Chris (Nikki), Amanda (Nick), Stevie (Sydney), Brooke (John), Carley, Ally, Dawson, Elaynah, Kristin (Aaron), Taylor (Zac), Kaylah (Tony), Felicity, Brianna, and Austin; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James "Jimmy" A. Yates; and brother, Ronald P. Yates.
Visitation will be from 10 am until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 12 pm, Monday, February 5 at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River. Father Donald Wolford will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Holy Angels Parish and/or Masses.
