Jack Dale Carlile, 81, of Alton, IL passed in peace at home, Aug 20, 2024. He was born in Gary, IN on Aug 20,1943 to Omer and Faye (Biggs) Carlile.
Jack served in the Air Force for four years, stationed in England. Jack also enlisted in the Marines, serving his country during the Vietnam War in the Mediterranean Sea.
After leaving the military, Jack worked the river barges up and down the Mississippi River. He docked in Alton, IL where he lived the rest of his life. Jack worked as a supervisor for American Steel and Alton Steel. Later he worked for Frontier Furnishings in Alton, until fully retiring.
Jack enjoyed reading, watching history programs and hanging out with friends at "DJ’s Bar". Earlier on he loved to travel and enjoyed skydiving. He was always good for a story of childhood antics with his siblings or a good joke. Not a man of many words but he always made the words count.
Jack is survived by his wife, Jeanne Carlile and their daughter Carrie Stawar (Brian); five grandchildren, Aubrey Jones (Chris), Jacob Stawar, Adriana Bramstedt (Zachary), Zackary Stawar (Kathryn) and Christian Stawar; six great-grandchildren, Mary Jane Jones, Avery Stawar, Faye Stawar, Gwendolyn Jones, Wyatt Stawar and Bentley Bramstedt; brother, Vic Carlile (Cher) of Bonfield, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Shaun W Carlile; (son with first wife Dianne Carlile); his siblings, Betty Fuller, Jim Carlisle, Donna Penny and Chuck Carlile and second wife, Cheryl Carlile.
Visitation will be held Monday August 26, 2024 from 10am to 12pm at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. He will be laid to rest in Upper Alton Cemetery following visitation.
Memorials maybe made to the American Lung Association or Disable American Veterans.
