Forrest Allen Carter, 92, formerly of East Alton, passed away June 19, 2025 at Granite Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Cheyenne, WY.
Born June 28, 1932 in Wayne County, IL, he was the son of Jessie and Hazel (Boyer) Carter.
A U.S. Air Force, Korean War veteran, he had been stationed in Long Beach, CA and in England. He had worked as a machinist for McDonnell-Douglas before retiring. After retiring, he began farming at Mueller Farms for several years. Forrest had been a lifetime member of East Alton American Legion Post 794.
On October 11, 1975 in Godfrey, he married Katherine Chadwick. She died March 28, 2019.
Surviving are two sons, Mark (Bradi) Carter of Foristell, MO, John (Windy) Carter of Cheyenne, WY; and three grandchildren, Alexandra Laws, Michael R. Hill, III, and Kenneth J. Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Alvin E. Carter, Robert Carter, Paul "Leon" Carter; and two sisters, Mary Osterman and Doris Osterman.
Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until time of service at 2 pm, Saturday, June 28 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery with military honors presented by Alton VFW Post 1308.
