Evelyn Lorene (Herrin) Ortiz

Evelyn Lorene Ortiz, 68, went to be with the Lord, November 19, 2024 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born September17, 1956 in Wood River, she was the daughter of Alva, Sr. and Evelyn (Douglas) Herrin.

Evelyn has worked as a kitchen manager for the State of Illinois before retiring.

On June 20, 2004 she married Pedro Ortiz. He died April 29, 2024.

Surviving are a son, David Hoffmann of Granite City; two daughters, Sonya Russell and Brandy (Jon) Bresser all of Earlville, IL; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four brothers, Nelson Herrin of Wood River, Al Herrin, Jr. and Larry Herrin both of Granite City, Stanley Herrin in Arkansas; and eight sisters, Juanita Kelley and Betty Carlisle both of Wood River, Norma McGee and Debbie Herrin both of Godfrey, Karen Herrin, Sherley Reed, and Kathleen Smith all of East Alton, and Sandra Carr in Montana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy, Jeremy Hoffmann; eight brothers; and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, Monday, December 16 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Pastors Stanley Herrin and Betty Carlisle will officiate.

Burial will be in Winchester City Cemetery in Winchester, IL.
