Darrell Jay Evans, 79, passed away November 16, 2025 at White Hall Rehab and Nursing.
Born to J.D. and Ruth (Kuehnel) Evans on October 7, 1946, he was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend.
Darrell served many years in the U.S. Navy, fighting for what he believed in. He served multiple tours during the Vietnam War. After serving, he worked as a Laborer out of Labor Local #338 as well as for Granite City Steel.
Darrell spend his free time talking old war stories, buying and trading guns, going to the shooting range (he could hit a target with his eyes closed), reading about all of the World Wars, and spending time with his family. Darrell had the kindest heart. He loved animals of all kinds, would give the shirt off his back to a stranger, and wore the most sincere smile.
He is survived by his children, Dana (Gary) Martin of Godfrey, Jeff (Jennifer) Evans of Godfrey, Heather Evans of Hartford; grandchildren, Logan Graham, Benjamin Martin, Lucas Martin, Hannah Evans, Katelyn Evans, Kaleigh Evans; sister, Sharon (Phil) Haley of Gulfport, MS; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded to Heaven by his parents; grandparents; and many old war buddies.
Private services will be held Sunday, November 30 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River
Memorials are suggested to Alton 5 A's Animal Shelter.
