Craig A. Dettmers, 71, a lifelong resident of Bethalto, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
He was the son of William F. Dettmers and Shirley (Warren) Dettmers, born on September 26, 1953 in Alton.
He was the first graduate of Our Lady Queen of Peace School and a Civic Memorial graduate. He was an Eagle Scout. Before his health declined, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of American Legion. Perhaps his proudest achievement was serving Bethalto on the Village Board of Trustees. Craig enjoyed traveling and could be found studying an atlas when there was no Cardinal baseball game on TV.
He is survived by his children, Adam, Nathan, and Audrey, granddaughters Lilian and Sami, great grandchildren Scarlett and Deacon. Also surviving are his brothers and sisters: Bill (Sandy) Dettmers, Pam (John) Gass, Gary (Denise) Dettmers, Paul Dettmers, Teresa (Jim) Langford, Sue (Steve) Mitchell, Mary (Raj) Padmaraj, and Steve (Crystal) Dettmers. He also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 10:30am until time of service at 12 pm, Thursday, May 22 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Bethalto American Legion Post 214.
