Betty Jane Barnd, 96, passed away Monday, November 6, 2023 at her residence.
Born June 15, 1927 in Roodhouse, she was the daughter of James V. and Ruby M. (Newman) Adkins.
She began working at Owens-IL Glass before changing professions and becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse working for the former VIP Manor and Blu Fountain Manor before taking on private duty nursing.
She was a lifetime member of Martins Prairie Baptist Church in Roodhouse; she served as a scout leader for the Girl Scouts of America for many years; was a lifetime member as a "Gold Star Wife"; and enjoyed sewing and traveling.
On May 11, 1946 in White Hall, she married Lloyd Barnd. He was killed in action during the Korean war on July 11, 1951.
Surviving are a son, Lloyd "Buddy" Barnd of Alton; daughter, Glenda (Larry) Haskins of Florissant, MO; grandson, Glenn "Adam" (DiDi) Barnd; and three great grandchildren, Zachary Barnd, Skylar Barnd, and Courtney Barnd.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a brother, James J. Adkins.
Visitation will be from 10 am until time of service at 11 am, Tuesday, November 14 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.
Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery in Roodhouse.
Memorials are suggested to Martins Prairie Baptist Church.
