Bernard Ralph Thompson, 79, passed away March 8, 2026 at Highland Care and Rehabilitation.
Born January 14, 1947 in Alton, he was the son of Truman and Helen (Campion) Thompson.
A U.S. Army, Vietnam veteran, he had been employed as an adjuster in the Winchester Division of the Olin Corporation before retiring.
On July 3, 1970 in Wanda, he married Diana Bienemann. She survives.
Surviving also are a son, Shawn (Kara) Thompson of Hartford; daughter, Tonya (Michael) Flatt of South Roxana; three grandchildren, Laura (Jake) Hildenbrand, Michael (Malyn) Flatt, and Becca Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two granddaughters, Megan Marie Flatt and Gwendolyn Fay Thompson; and two brothers, Roger and Richard Thopmpson.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Thursday, March 12 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River where funeral service will be held at 11 am, Friday. Chaplain Michael Flatt will officiate.
Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors presented by Alton VFW Post 1308.
